The Baptism of the Lord: Teachable Moments
Today marks the liturgical end of the Christmas Season with the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. Here are today's readings
This is when we take some time to go over some of the basic teachings of our faith with the students or to remember as Fr. Mesmer said this morning, what it means to be called, "Christian".
Please take some time with your child to go over the basics, they are so important in teaching us how to treat one another and how to listen to God's promptings in our lives.
First. The Sign of the Cross
We are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit illustrated below.
The ten commandments teach us to prioritize God and how to treat our family and community:
1.) No one and no thing should be more important than God.
2.) God's name should be respected (No false idols!)
3.) The Sabbath is usually Saturday or Sunday and includes attending church (during non-COVID times).
4.) As parents, we hold a place of honor in our children's lives.
5.) No killing.
6.) Stay true to your vows.
7.) No stealing.
8.) Don't lie, gossip or spread rumors.
9 & 10) Don't envy what another person has.
Discerning good from evil and right from wrong using prayer is the best way to keep our soul aligned with God's purpose for our lives. When we turn to God in prayer to help us make decisions we can be confident that our decision will be made for our greatest good.
