Important Reminders and Calendar Highlights!

There is so much going on in the coming weeks and with Lent in less than two weeks the calendar is looking goofy!

First!  This weekend there is Circles of Care training for all grades.  Letters were sent home either with your child last week or in the mail.  This is our Safe Environment Training required  every year by the diocese.

Pancakes, sausage, fruit cup and choice of beverage

Second!  Next week (February 7th from 9:30am12:30pm) is our Pancake Breakfast!  This is such a fun event and is for a GREAT CAUSE! All proceeds go directly to the Historic St Johns Scholarship fund.  Grades 7-10 are your servers with kids from grades 11 and up as your hosts!  This is a multi-generational event! We look forward to serving you!

Because of the breakfast, there are no classes that day.  Grades 7/8 have the 9-11 shift and grades 9/10 have the 11-1 shift.  Tickets will be on sale after the masses and are $5.00 Adults, $3.00 Children, Family of 5 or over $20.00 while children 3 and under eat free.

If you have a child in the Sacramental program for either First Communion or Confirmation, it is very important that they attend classes regularly.  Since we follow the school calendar and because Easter is early this year, actual class time is limited.  It is very important that your child make it to whatever classes are left so that they understand and are comfortable with the sacrament that they are receiving.  This has been a challenging year for attendance and I ask you to please make this a priority.

As Lent starts in 10 days, we will be sending home some paperwork this weekend.  Please encourage your children to follow the Lenten calendar and weekly lessons.  Part of this will be a Gospel Weeklie assignment for grades 2-6.  This gives you and opportunity to see what your child is learning and to share in their experience. In addition, we are asking the children to consider sacrificial "tithing" which will benefit the Kino Border Initiative.  The older students collected used backpacks throughout Advent, (and we are still accepting donations because the need is ongoing) for these migrant/refugees.  We are asking that they do this as a Corporal Work of Mercy during this Year of Mercy.  This is completely voluntary as we want it to come from their hearts.  However, any donations will be accepted.  All donations will be used through Amazon.com so that basic self care needs can be purchased.  Please follow the link to find out more about the Kino Border Initiative.

February 14th there is no class due to Winter Recess.

February 21st at 9am is Family Mass.  Grades 4 and 5 are leaders.

Thank you so much for all of your support in how we try to bring the faith of our church and the love of Jesus Christ out into the world.  The Year of Mercy challenges us to open our hearts to all of God's people and this parish never disappoints.  Thank you for sharing your children with us.
